Film in Theory
Tsk 1: Film in Theory
structuralism: films convey meanings through the use of codes and conventions a bit like the way languages are used to construct a conversation.
semiotics: semiotic analysis is a way to explain how an audience makes meaning from codes.
auteur theory: the director is viewed as the major creative force when creating the films. It first came around in France in 1940s.
feminism: Feminism in films is the way in which women are protrude by subverting and reinforcing different stereotypes towards women.
Queer Theory: Queer theory is a field of critical theory that emerged in the early 1990s out of the fields of queer studies and women's studies. an example is Scorpio Rising
Marxist: Marxist film makers would employ radical editing and choice of subject matter, as well as subversive parody, to heighten class consciousness and promote Marxist ideas. the film Theorem is an example of this.
Psychoanalytic film theory: The theory is closely tied to Critical theory, Marxist film theory, and Apparatus theory. The theory is separated into two waves. The First wave occurred in the 1960s and 70s. The second wave became popular in the 1980s and 90s. Back to the future is an example of this.
