Film: Young Frankenstein By Mel Brooks Made in 1974
The genre of the film Young Frankenstein is a horror comedy as it is Mel Brooks interpretation on the book/film Frankenstein. Young Frankenstein is a film about a mad scientist called Frederick Frankenstein who at first doesn't believe in his grand fathers idea of bringing the dead back to life. Frederick travels to his grand fathers castle in Transylvania to look at his grand fathers books. When, Frederick realises that it is possible to bring the dead back to life he gives it a try. when creating the monster Frederick asks his hunch back Igor to go and collect a certain brain but, instead picks up an abnormal brain. when the monster is brought to life it attacks Frederick. Mel Brooks has decided to add in humorous jokes in places where in the original Frankenstein it is meant to be serious. The narrative of the film is how a scientist follows his grandfather in his footsteps to bring the dead back alive but, it all went wrong as the monster then went onto trying to attack everyone if he felt threatened or if he was anywhere near fire. The use of the set design and costumes helps to create a horror film for the time it was made. There is a lot of comedy used throughout the film as it helps draw the audience into watching more as it will constantly make you laugh.
